The back row of the Cathedral Choir consists of between five and ten Lay Clerks: professional counter-tenors, tenors and basses. Together with the choristers they sing Mass each day of the week (men only on Wednesdays and boys only on Tuesdays) and on weekdays sing Vespers (men only) at 5pm. During school holidays (excluding August), all services are sung by the men of the choir alone.

There is a list of approved deputies. If you are a professional singer with good sight-reading ability and experience of singing Gregorian Chant click here for details on how to apply for an audition to join the list.

Grand Organ Festival opening recital cancelled

We are very sad to announce that Professor John Butt's opening GOF recital on 20 May has been cancelled, because of the Covid-19 situation. We will assess later in the month whether it looks likely that we can go ahead with Professor Andreas Sieling's recital on 17 June or not, and will keep the website updated to this effect.
