Westminster Cathedral Choir awarded Cathedral Choirs’ Emergency Fund grant

Westminster Cathedral Choir is delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant of £20,000 by the Cathedral Choirs' Emergency Fund. This is a huge help to us, and we are extremely grateful to the Cathedral Music Trust (www.cathedralmusictrust.org.uk) for their generosity, which will provide much-needed financial support for our unique choral tradition.

Following Mass on Monday 16th March, choral services ceased for the longest time since the Second World War. Happily, sung services recommenced at the Cathedral at the beginning of September with Sunday Mass and Vespers sung by the lay clerks of the Cathedral Choir, observing all social distancing guidelines. The choristers spent September rehearsing, and joined together with the lay clerks for the first time to sing Mass on Sunday 4th October.

Thanks to the assistance of the Cathedral Choirs’ Emergency Fund the Cathedral Choir is currently singing Mass and Vespers on Sundays, and Mass on Thursdays. The lay clerks continue to sing as cantors for weekday Masses, joined by the choristers on Tuesdays.
